# timers

> Reference for the timers tool of Recaloo: every action and what it does.

Source: https://recaloo.io/docs/reference/timers/

Action timers: time how long something takes, repeat it, compare variants.

Call it as the `timers` tool of the Recaloo MCP server with `action` and `args`.

## Actions

| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| `start` | Starts a timer and answers the run (id, status running, startedAt). |
| `lap` | Marks a lap on a running timer (name defaults to "Lap n"). |
| `stop` | Stops a timer: status done, duration = stop - start - paused time. |
| `cancel` | Throws a running or paused timer away: status cancelled, no duration, left out of the numbers. |
| `list` | Runs, newest first, optionally of one experiment. |
| `read` | One run with its laps (name and atMs, the running time since the start). |
| `stats` | The answer, same code as the Timers page. |
| `experiments` | The workspace's experiments (title, variants, lap names, auto-stop time). |
| `create_experiment` | Makes an experiment to compare variants of an action. |

> [!TIP]
> Ask for the exact arguments of any action with `action: "help", of: "start"`. The server answers from its own definitions, so that answer is always current.
